Random Acts of Kindness

There are plenty of horror stories of unkindness plaguing society. The Covid-19 pandemic, though, has brought out some good from everyone.

The hardships we face, though, bring out the best in us. Kindness is a much bigger feature of our world today than ever, which is beautiful.

Crucial to this wonderful transformation is the kindness we all show one another every day. Never underestimate what a simple act of kindness can mean to someone.

Below, we showcase some random acts of kindness. If we do these more often, though, it will make a much better impact.

Make a Homemade Card or Gift

We can do so many things to make someone’s day a little bit better. One way is to make them a homemade card or gift.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just something from the heart. You could draw a picture, write a poem, or just put some stickers on a piece of paper. If you’re feeling really creative, you could make them a scrapbook page or an origami crane.

Drop off a Treat at Your Local Fire or Police Station

An act of kindness is a selfless gesture that can make somebody’s day. Why not do something nice for your local firefighters or police officers?

Many stations have a “drop-off” box where you can leave cookies, muffins, or another treat. This small gesture will show your gratitude and appreciation for their hard work.

Help a Neighbor

There’s no need to wait for a special occasion to do something nice for a neighbour. A simple act of kindness like carrying in groceries, raking leaves, or shovelling snow, can make someone’s day.

It’s easy to do and doesn’t cost anything, but it can mean a lot to the person on the receiving end. So why not take some time and help out a neighbour who might be struggling? You never know how much it might mean to them.

Donate to a Local Charity or Shelter

When it’s time to clean out your closet, don’t just throw your clothes in the trash. Donate them to a local charity or shelter.

You can also donate books, toys, and other items to local charities and shelters. These items are often hard to come by, so they’re always appreciated. Plus, donating these items is a great way to teach your kids about giving back to their community.

Write Thank-You Notes to Service People

Thank you notes to service people such as mail carriers, nurses, and teachers can brighten the recipient’s day and make them feel appreciated.

When writing a thank-you note, be sure to personalize it. Mention something specific that the person did that made a difference. For example, you could say, “Thank you for delivering my package on time” or “Thank you for taking care of my grandmother.”

For example, Paul Rudd made a simple gesture for a kid he’d never met, which made the kid’s day; read more about this here.
